Tonsils and Bad Breath

Doctor I have been suffering from bad breath for almost 14years and it's due to tonsil stones. I tried to get rid of it by removing the tonsil stones with Q-tips and I underwent several medications but the tonsil stone keeps on forming. It's killing my self esteem and confidence when talking to people.
What should I do?

Infections in the tonsils are a common cause of bad breath. Removing the tonsil stones or plaques by yourself using Q-tips may not be effective. As you say yourself, the stones keep forming. Removal of your tonsils may help you. If you are at least 15-20 years of age, removal of the tonsils should not cause you any problems.

You have been trying to treat yourself for 14 years and it has not helped at all. I always advise people not to self medicate. Self medication can not only be ineffective, but it can also have harmful effects in some cases.

You need to consult an ENT specialist to decide whether to remove your tonsils. I would also advise you to consult a dentist to see if there is any other problem in your teeth that is causing bad breath.

Bipolar

People who are affected by bipolar disorder have cyclical mood swings from extreme happiness (mania) to either normal or depressed. Although the cycle length varies greatly from person to person, the median cycle length is 13 weeks. Symptoms of depression include hopelessness, apathy (loss of interest), lethargy (lack of energy), sadness, feelings of worthlessness and guilt, etc. Symptoms of mania include high energy, distractability, excitability, inflated self-esteem and delusions of grandeur, rapid speech, racing thoughts, and insomnia. While happiness may seem less dangerous than depression, mania is often more severe and destructive than depression, leading to problems at work and school as well as relationship problems.

Hernia How does one manage hernia?

The commonest use of the word “hernia” is for inguinal hernia. There are other different kinds of hernia, but I will discuss inguinal hernia here. The lower abdomen has a canal on both sides of the midline, called the inguinal canal. A nerve passes through this canal along with some other structures. The inguinal canal helps these structures to pass from inside the abdomen to outside the abdomen.

A weakness in the abdominal muscles can make the opening of this canal wider than normal. When this happens, organs of the abdomen like the intestine or fat can pass through the inguinal canal and can be seen as a lump in the groin. This is called an inguinal hernia. Sometimes, the lump can only be seen upon coughing or lifting heavy weights.

Mild cases of inguinal hernia can be corrected by strengthening of the abdominal muscles. Severe cases will require surgery to push back the organs back into the abdomen. The inguinal canal is then strengthened using a mesh. What treatment will be required in your case can only be decided after examining you. I would advise you to consult a doctor for the same.

Beri-beri is a Deficiency Disease caused by Lack of Vitamin B1 (thiamine)

Beri-beri is a nutritional human disorder in which affected individuals suffer from wasting of muscles, paralysis, mental confusion and sometimes heart failure. It occurs mainly in those countries where the staple diet is polished rice. There are two types of the disease: wet beriberi and dry beriberi. Wet beriberi affects the heart and circulatory system. Here is an accumulation of tissue fluid (oedema), In extreme cases, wet beriberi can cause heart failure. Dry beriberi causes nervous degeneration and can lead to a loss of muscle strength and eventually, muscle paralysis. Skin cyanosis is due to lack of oxygen. Beriberi can be life-threatening if it isn’t treated.
